Get to Know Us Before You Need Us briefings:

Get to Know Us Before You Need Us briefings are designed to inform our military and their families about our services and benefits and how to access them during times of need. These breifings are especially critical prior to a service member's deployment, so that in times of emergency, family and loved ones know what to do to activate Red Cross services.

Coping With Deployments Courses:

The Central NC Chapter supports military families during deployments through our Coping With Deployment course. Taught by licensed mental health professionals, this course is desined to assist military families in manageing the many changes in their lives when their service members are deployed. This course is available for individuals or Family Readiness Groups. The course is free and taught in a confidential envioronment.

Coming Home Series: Reintegration and Reunion Courses:

This series focuses on individual/small group coaching that enhances the liklihood of positive reconnections among family members and loved ones and the successfull reengagement of the service member in civilian life. The series consists of a number of topic areas that service members and their families have found relevant to their experienc as they transition back home. This  series is free of charge and taught in a confidencial enviornment.

Holiday Hero Comfort Kits:

This year the Central NC Chapter provided 500 holiday hero
comfort kits to the Durham VA Medical Center for injured or
ill veteran patients.

Holiday Mail for Heroes:

This month the Central NC Chapter participated in Holiday
Mail for Heroes project, a national Red Cross initiative to
send a little bit of home and to say "thank you" to our brave
military men and women for their service. The Chapter set
up holiday card signing stations on Veterans Day  in three
locations: the UNC Chapel Hill Campus at the student “pitt”
area, a Super Wal-Mart in Henderson, and a Wal-Mart in
Oxford. Hundreds of cards were collected. Over 800 cards
were sent with the Holiday Hero Kits to the Durham VA
Medical Center to provide a little holiday cheer to injured
or ill veterans.

The Veterans History Project: 

Every veteran could tell a rich story about their military experience, but how often are they asked to share them? These stories are an important part of our national history and the Red Cross is dedicated to helping to provide a forum for them to be told.  Partnering with the Library of Congress, Red Cross chapters across the nation, including the Central NC Chapter, are participating in the Veterans History Project .

In VA Medical Centers and Military Hospitals, such as our own Durham VA Medical Center, Red Cross volunteers document the oral histories of veterans not only to ensure that they are archived and made a permanent part of our American History, but as a way of honoring veterans for their service.
